December meeting | Christmas crafting

December 29, 2016 Balham WI 0 Comments

Christmastime is a favourite one for us ladies of Balham WI. Our December meetings are always filled with fun and frivolity and 2016 proved another great one for the books.

This year we had three seasonal activities to try our hands at: stitching Scandinavian-style felt ornaments, decorating Christmas gift tags, and icing gingerbread cookies (in shapes both traditional and a bit fun!).

This was our first meeting back at our usual venue of The Devonshire as they'd been closed over our October & November meetings for a large renovation. We're loving the new look and new light of the space we meet in! In addition to the fun we were getting up to during our meeting, we were treated some caroling from the Liberty choir of Wandsworth Prison as they made the rounds through the pub.  It was an unexpected surprise!

As we have for a number of years, we gathered gifts for the children staying at the Hestia Wandsworth refuge this Christmas as well as some treats for the women there also.  We are proud to support the great work Hestia do in providing a safe place and help for women in need of it and are glad we are able to help brighten the holiday season just a little bit for those who might not otherwise have much of a happy Christmas.
It's been quite the year for our WI and we can't wait to see what 2017 will bring us!
