WI Centenary Picnic at Hyde Park

On May 23, ladies from most of the London WIs within Surrey Federation joined together for a picnic at Hyde Park to celebrate 100 years of the Women's Institutes in England & Wales.  We all brought picnic food along and even a slight shower didn't dampen our spirits and we all just squeezed onto the fabulous Hyde Park bandstand with our blankets and our lunches!

Members took part in a baking competition, some WIs had display boards about their history, some members (including our own Maria) read poems of 100 words on what the WI means to them, and many WIs had banners and bunting strung up around the bandstand.  Wandsworth was very happy to debut our lovely new banner stitched by members in the past couple months.

Some members from Streatham WI took the Centennial baton and ran it down to the Albert Hall - where the NFWI Annual Meeting will soon take place - and back. Our last leg for Surrey Federation's time with it!

It was great to have a good representation of women from Wandsworth WI at the picnic.  There is talk of having further London/Surrey events in future!
